Frequently Asked Questions

The Indonesia eVOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival) is the online version of Indonesia’s visa on arrival, issued by the Directorate General of Immigration before you travel. You need a visa on arrival if you are a citizen of an eVOA-eligible country — such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Japan, or most European Union member states — and are visiting Indonesia for tourism, a family visit, business meetings, or transit. You do not need an eVOA if you are an Indonesian citizen, hold a KITAS/KITAP residence permit or another valid Indonesian visa, or are a citizen of a visa-exempt ASEAN member state. Each traveler, including children and infants, must have their own approved visa issued against the passport they will travel with.

Yes — the eVOA is the same visa, applied for online before you fly. Instead of queuing at the airport counters on arrival, you complete everything in advance and pass through the faster eVOA lanes with your approved visa already in hand. Holding an approved eVOA does not guarantee entry into Indonesia; final admission decisions are made by immigration officers at the port of entry.

Apply at least several days before your flight to Indonesia, so there is time for processing and any corrections. Most applications are processed within 1–3 business days. Your eVOA is valid for entry within 90 days of issue, so you can apply well ahead of your trip — as soon as you have your passport and travel dates.

There is no specific submission window before travel — once approved, an eTA remains valid for up to 5 years, so you can apply well in advance.

An approved eVOA must be used to enter Indonesia within 90 days of issue. It allows a single entry with a stay of up to 30 days, which can be extended once — for a further 30 days — at an immigration office in Indonesia, giving a maximum stay of 60 days. The visa is issued against the specific passport used during the application and cannot be transferred. If your passport is lost, replaced, or renewed, you must apply for a new eVOA before traveling.

If you will pass through immigration — for example to change airports, collect baggage, or stay overnight — you need a visa, and the eVOA covers transit for eligible nationalities. Travelers who remain in the international transit area without crossing immigration generally do not need one. All travelers entering Indonesia must also complete the free All Indonesia Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival. Completing both in advance helps avoid delays.

Please note that the eTA is required only for air travel. Travelers entering Canada by land or by sea do not need an eTA.

Completing the form in advance helps avoid potential delays.

Yes. An eVOA application can be completed on behalf of another traveler, such as a family member or group participant, provided all information matches the traveler’s passport exactly and proper authorization has been obtained. Each traveler must still have their own individual visa application, including children and infants.

Each traveler must still have their own individual eTA application, including children and infants.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive a decision by email. Most applications are processed within 1–3 business days; some require additional review and take longer. If approved, your eVOA is issued electronically as a PDF — save it to your phone or print a copy, and travel with the same passport you used to apply. Immigration officers verify the visa at the eVOA lane on arrival. If your application is refused, the reason will be provided in the email, and in most cases you can reapply with corrected details.
